Installing USB modem ZTE AC2726 in Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty
Recently i successfully installed ZTE AC-2726 modem that came with reliance wireless broadband connection. Below are the steps:
Insert the modem in USB interface and see if that gets detected.
$ lsusb
Bus 005 Device 002: ID 19d2:fff5
I noticed in /var/log/messsages that the device is detected as usb storage. To make it detected as modem we will use usb-modeswitch package. It is a Switching tool for controlling “flip flop” USB devices.
Download usb_switch package from here and install.
$ sudo dpkg -i usb-modeswitch_1.0.2-1_i386.
Unplug and plugin the modem back.
$ lsusb
Bus 005 Device 004: ID 19d2:fff1 <- Notice the change in product id
$ sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x19d2 product=0xfff1
You can see in the logs that the modem is detected correctly now. To detect & configure the dialer config run:
$ sudo wvdialconf
Check and add the missing entries in wvdial conf as found below:
$ sudo vi /etc/wvdial.conf
Phone = #777
Password = <Your Password>
Username = <Your Login Name>
Baud = 460800
Stupid Mode = 1
New PPPD = 1
Tonline = 0
Note: Give a valid username & password in the corresponding lines above and uncomment them (Hint: remove “;” from the beginning of the line).
$ sudo wvdial
The connection started working. Note that you can also configure gnome-ppp or kpp to connect.
Can i just use network manager after the modem have been detected by ubuntu? I dont have the wvdial yet…..
what kind of connection ‘ll u use…..when detected n u can setting in your broadband……
but if you would like use wvdial….so you have to install wvdial then edit wvdial.conf…n then u can directly sudo wvdial…just connected
if you would like to connect with your mobile , n u use cable so you don’t need wvdial, but if you would like to connect with bluetooth,u have to install wvdial,n in karmic koala u have to edit broadband service xml,special for indosat,coz at the xml,they write imdosat,not indosat,so u have to edit the xml

Hemm bagaimana caranya ya saya punya modem USB Stick SpeedUp Tipe SU – 3200U biar bisa jalan di ubuntu 9.04 atau 9.10.. terima kasih mohon bantuannya ..

Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program?
Did you configure it properly with setserial?

so wvdial just dial the number for your connection,,,,so make sure your usb modem detected………….
Hi, are you a windows xp user too?, I have tried to install ac2726 at my ubuntu machine and it’s working flawlessly, but when I need to do some works in windows xp, it couldn’t detect the device (it was working well previously). Man, am I do something wrong with the modem?

Kelihatannya modem zte-ac2726 ini agak bermasalah dilinux, tdk dpt dipakai lebih dari sekali sambung. Jika di disconnect kemudian di connect lagi tidak bisa, harus dicabut lagi dan masukkan lagi. Kalau tidak akan keluar karakter aneh terus menerus.
Apakah yang lain mengalami hal demikian? dan bagaimana cara mengatasinya?
Iyach ntuh memang begitu pak…saya hanya pernah mencoba beberapa kali dan kemudian meninggalkan nya,dan karakter aneh ntuh bukanlah hal aneh,karena kalau wvdial juga kan muncul ntuh tulisan aneh yang susah di baca,walau tidak pakai SMART dan koneksi dengan modem HP juga sering putus nyambung kok pak,jadi emang kudu sabar jadi pengguna linux,terus terang sampai sekarang saya tidak bisa mecahin masalah itu

saya pernah berhasil nginstal modem zte ac 2726 ui di linux Sabily Manarat Full. koneksinya juga bisa lama (tidak putus sebentar-sebentar), ada pengaturan angka cuma saya lupa. catatanya juga lupa disimpan dimana.

saya nulis koment ini menggunakan sabily manarat+modem zte ac 2726 ui. karena data yang dulu entah dimana, jadi saya lagi mencari cara agar koneksinya tidak putus-putus (dulu hanya mencoba kemudian pindah pake windwows lagi).

1.saya liat anda sudah masuk dalam mode Root jadi tidak perlu lagi pake sudo
2.apakah lokasi file usb-modeswitch_1.0.2-1_i386.deb sudah tepat di dalam home anda ? jika tidak tepat maka silahkan masuk kedalam folder tempat anda menyimpan file usb-modeswitch_1.0.2-1_i386.deb dengan terminal baru kemudian anda ketikan perintah dpkg-i usb-modeswitch_1.0.2-1_i386.deb.
3.Kalau anda tidak mau repot dengan mengetikkan perintah di atas, silahkan cari file usb-modeswitch_1.0.2-1_i386.deb kemudian klik dua kali untuk menginstall nya jika anda memakai debian dan turunan nya.
4.# sudo wvdialconf
sudo: wvdialconf: command not found
ini terjadi karena anda belum menginstall wvdial, silahkan ketik perintah apt-get install wvdial
setelah anda menginstall wvdial baru anda edit sesuai dengan keperluan anda di /etc/wvdial.conf
untuk lebih ramah dengan anda, sebaik nya jangan gunakan vi untuk membuka file wvdial.conf tapi bukalah dengan gedit perintah nya seperti ini
gedit /etc/wvdial.conf

klo mnurut saya, kykny sih saya harus donlod lg paket wvdial ny.

lalu saya mw nanya ini pak, waktu prangkat ac2726 ny sudah menjadi modem (fff1) kan jd ngg muncul di file browserny, lalu bagaimana cara supaya modem bisa balik lg jd storage (fff5) atau agar bisa unplug prangkat secara lebih ramah dalam keadaan modem (fff1), saya minta printah terminalnya pak.

Bapak silahkan lakukan sudo apt-get update dulu
baru setelah itu di install, kalau tidak bisa juga silahkan ganti source list bapak, dan silahkan menyesuaikan source list nya dengan sumber yang dekat dengan bapak dan benwit nya besar, mungkin alternatip yang bagus bisa ngambil ke mirror unej.ac.id
untuk masalah membuat nya menjadi storage bapak perlu mount storage, bapak bisa liat storage nya di baca sebagai apa di /dev/ nya :d
mm,,saya sudah install seperti yang di sebutkan..
pas wvdial smart, dapet ip tapi gagal terus dpt dns ya. jd stop aja disitu,,,
DNS itu masalah nya ada pada smart nya bukan sama wvdial pak! tapi sebaiknya jika bapak memakai ubuntu karmic ke atas maka tinggal sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x05c6 product=0×9004
kemudian masuk ke prefrences dan masuk ke network nya dan silahkan isi data disana, nanti akan di minta ISP dan password, semuanya di isi dengan smart, jadi gampang n g cape wvdial terus…..
